High Sierra Chapter of American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to a new year with the High Sierra Chapter of AACN.  With our ever-continuing nursing shortage, it is imperative that we, as nurses, work together and form relationships that will help to nurture each other.  The people we don't spend a lot of time nurturing is ourselves or each other.  We are our own best resources.  Nurses are the best people to relate to other nurses.  We, nurses, are the best people to listen, support, and empathize with each other.  It is organizations such as AACN that promote this bonding.

The goal of the High Sierra Chapter of AACN is to provide an environment to promote professional growth, continuing education of its members, and a method to provide relationships to further enhance the profession of critical care nursing and promote the successes of its memebers.  Over the next year, we hope to provide AACN members with newletters, educational symposiums, and social events to achieve these goals.

I am excited to be part of this VERY hard working group of individuals.  It's going to be a GREAT year!

Keri McGill, RN, BSN, CCRN

President

High Sierra Chapter AACN

MISSION AND VISION OF HIGH SIERRA CHAPTER OF AACN

As the High Sierra Chapter of AACN, we embrace and support the mission from AACN National.  Further, we desire to perpetuate the continued growth and development of the professional critical care nurse through educational opportunities, community service and leadership development.  And in addition to the National AACN vision, HSC is dedicated to using our available resources to provide educational opportunities for it's members as well as to provide services to the community in which we live.

HISTORY

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses was first established in 1969 as the American Association of Cardiovascular Nursing.  It was decided in 1971 to adopt its current name to include all nurses who care for critically ill patients, regardless of the setting or diagnosis.  And since then, AACN has become one of the largest nursing specialties in the world, representing more than 65,000 nurses.  The association is dedicated to providing members with the knowledge and resources necessary to provide optimal care to critically ill patients.  The non-profit High Sierra Chapter was chartered in 1979.

You can join National AACN or HSC from the Membership Information link.  Our chapter provides bulk membership for National AACN at a reduced rate.  Please review our Events Calendar as we encourage all critical care nurses to attend our exceptional events and network with other nursing professionals.  Also, there are diverse opportunities to volunteer a few hours of your time.  This can be as little as offering links to cool web sites, making flyers or being your hospital liaison.  Or, you may want to consider a position on the HSC Board of Directors.  Involve yourself with HSC as this is a wonderful opportunity to build on your leadership skills, to learn more about a fantastic array of resources and to contribute to the promotion of critical care nursing as a speciality.

So again, please take the time to surf our website and e-mail us with any questions, comments or information not found on this website at hsc.info@aacn.org.  On behalf of HSC-AACN, thank you for visiting our website and we look forward to hearing from you or meeting you at one of our educational, community or fund raising events!
