Profile: American Society for Training and Development - Sierra Nevada Chapter

Greetings!
 
As I write this, the holiday's are quickly approaching.  It seems like it was just yesterday that I sat with Kurt and Cathy at Starbuck's discussing the role of President-Elect.  My how time flies by!
 
At the ASTD Leadership Conference one of the speakers shared the concept of focusing on vital behaviors to create lasting change.  He shared the story of an impoverished village with a very high illness and death rate.  Their commitment to a small change improved the quality of their water supply and eradicated a life threatening disease. 
 
This small change it turns out improved their world and the lives of surrounding villagers who also eagerly committed to creating a lasting outcome for future generations.
 
Our Board and membership, like the villagers, are faced with an ever changing world.  Our past leaders have led us to this point and challenged us to continue to create success for the future.
 
We are full of anticipation as the New Year approaches.  We've been formulating plans to provide a year of growth, opportunity and fun.

One of the discussions we had at the Board Retreat was about Why ASTD?  For me, it's about pursuing my passion for learning and sharing my experiences along the way.  I know the "teachers" of the world have the greatest power to influence the greater good in our community.  We can reach out and help others work smarter, grow faster, live better lives and be better people.  We truly make a difference through the work that we do. 
 
So, thank you for the honor of serving the membership.  I look forward to chatting with you at our January meeting.
