Jobing Description
Reporting to DRI's Manager of Networking, Communications and Data Security, in Reno, NV, the Data Security Analyst will assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of policy and practice standards to ensure that DRI's information resources are secure from unauthorized access, protected from inappropriate alteration, and available to users. This is a hands-on position emphasizing technical expertise in evaluating, implementing and using advanced information security hardware and software systems.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of data security systems and associated hardware and software for the Desert Research Institute.
Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of:
o access control (authentication/authorization mechanisms, firewalls, VPN's)
o data confidentiality (includes password policies, data encryption)
o system integrity (includes certificate services, spam filtering, anti-virus and anti-spyware policies, malware detection and removal)
o system reliability (includes system audit and recovery methods and procedures, incident response procedures)
Monitor and analyze relevant system logs and reports to identify and resolve security related issues.

SPECIAL NOTE -- Due to oversight duties of this position to restricted sponsor data, ALL applicants MUST be citizens of the United States and the finalist will be required to submit to a fingerprint background check.

There will be hands on security skills assessment for the finalists selected for an interview.

Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; work on ladders occasionally required; occasionally work with common hand tools.

Skills / Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Computer Science, Business or Natural Sciences preferred); at least 4 years experience of overall IT experience in the areas of systems administration, networking or data security with at least 2 of the years of experience in information security related activities; experience in developing and implementing an information security program including familiarity with installing, configuring, and monitoring appropriate hardware and software; knowledge of security concepts and issues adequate to analyze and evaluate hardware and software products and recommendations from leading information security vendors (i.e., Check Point, Foundry, Cisco, Patchlink, Bluesocket., etc.).
